Specific Entry Requirements 

You will be expected to have achieved at least a Level 4 in Mathematics and English at IGCSE/GCSE.

Course Modules 

The syllabus over two years covers a range of economics ideas and they include the following:

AS Level

  • The economic problem
  • Allocation of resources
  • The market economy
  • Production possibility curves
  • The price system
  • Microeconomics
  • Macroeconomics 
  • Government intervention

A Level

  • Economic efficiency
  • Market failure
  • Law of diminishing marginal utility
  • Law of diminishing returns
  • Market structures,
  • Government policies 
  • Economic growth

How You Will Be Assessed 

AS Level Economics is assessed by two external examinations.

Paper 1- Multiple Choice, (1 hour exam), 20% of the overall grade
Paper 2 - Date-response and structured essay, (1 hour 30 min exam), 30% of overall grade

A Level Economics is assessed by two further examinations.

Paper 3- Multiple Choice, (1 hour 15 min exam), 15% of the overall grade
Paper 4 - Date-response and structured essay, (3 hour 15 min exam), 35% of the overall grade

University Courses and Career Paths 

You can progress on to University or a career in economics.
