Character Development

We all know about IQ. But what about EQ?
IQ covers academic knowledge. EQ describes our character.
Academic success can open doors, but it’s character that determines how far you go once you’re through them.
At St Bees, we nurture both. Alongside academic excellence, we place equal importance on developing emotional intelligence and character. Every week, we shine a spotlight on one key character attribute — the qualities that shape who our students are and who they become.
Through every lesson and activity — from classroom discussions to our extensive co-curricular programme — our students collaborate, communicate, problem-solve, and lead. They debate, create, and think critically, developing the confidence and integrity to navigate the challenges of a global future.
These attributes are at the heart of what it means to be a St Bees student — defining their character today, and preparing them to be the leaders of tomorrow.

It is this awareness of the wider world that enhances each student’s ability to tackle situations systematically and analytically. As a result, these skills further develop their unique and individual characters to make them who they are.
Each student will become an upstanding global citizen — and be proud of it.
