About Ceara

Ceara (pronounced ‘Cara’) is a graduate of St Andrews University in Psychology and Mathematics. Ceara loved her time in ‘the small grey toon’, relishing the challenge of a joint Masters degree, on top of being an active member of numerous university societies and charity ventures.

Ceara wasn’t ready to leave further education so continued her studies, pursuing her MA in Health Psychology. She was well on the path to becoming a qualified Health Psychologist until an urgent desire to spend a year in teaching got in the way. How different things could have been!

Choosing to ‘take a break’ from University education, Ceara worked for a year at Benenden School - where she wore many different hats. Teacher, Boarding Assistant, Tutor, Activity Coordinator and Mentor - you name it, she did it. Although leaving her exhausted, it certainly let her with a passion for education and for ensuring that every child should achieve their dreams.

In a twist of fate, an opportunity arose to become an Editor at the UK’s No.1 Educational Publishing Company – CGP Books, where Ceara spent seven years - four of them writing Maths, Psychology, 11+ and Primary books, before becoming a Senior Marketing Executive.

Ceara thrived in selling the books she helped to write. However, when the post at St Bees was offered - it was an opportunity not to be missed. Ceara took the jump to head up the Marketing and Admissions department where she gets to spend her time helping young people take their first steps onto a new and exciting path - as well as unleashing her creativity and ‘out of the box’ ideas to promote the school and its successes (often dreamt up on fell tops in the beautiful Lakes).

Ceara rarely sits still - and in her spare time can often be found in a lake, up a mountain, or (in a non-COVID world), travelling and leading volunteer trips to developing countries as a Team Leader for Habitat for Humanity.
