Founded in 1583, the school has a traditional atmosphere with a strong sense of history within our beautiful buildings, but also has a strong commitment to looking forward.
St Bees School has an unbeatable location on the doorstep of the UNESCO World Heritage site in the Lake District, a place of outstanding beauty that provides excellent opportunities for outdoor adventure training activities. Pupils are able to hike, sail, ride, cycle, swim and climb almost on a daily basis.

The school offers outstanding levels of pastoral care in small, friendly, well equipped boarding houses and staff develop close relationships with parents on all matters concerning their children. Our Medical Centre provides daily medical care and advice for all pupils.
The School is fortunate to have its own 9 hole golf course and short-game area, golf studio (with the latest computer analysis equipment), a swimming pool, fives courts, tennis courts, cricket nets, large sports hall, playing fields. With these top class facilities, all situated in 150 acres of beautiful green space with clean air, St Bees offers a wonderful and unique environment in which to study and play.
The school offers a full and integrated after-school activities programme providing a wide range of opportunities for all, to accommodate all talents, interests and abilities. A varied weekend and cultural visits programme is also offered.
St Bees is easily reached from Manchester Airport and has a rail connection to London. The School organises collection and return to Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle airports at the start and end of each term.
