Here at St Bees School we have a dedicated, passionate and highly trained leisure team.

As well as teaching hundreds of children to swim each week, they also look after the School’s Summerfest, Autumfest and Bushcraft experiences (among others!).

Read below to find out more:

Ann Stott

Ann is St Bees School’s Commercial Manager, as well as the Swim Academy Manager. As a Commercial Manager Ann’s role is quite varied, she is responsible for managing events such as Autumnfest and Summerfest, as well as managing the swimming pool where she is also a swimming teacher. Ann is also a school first aider.

As well as teaching people to swim for 15 years, she has also been a National Trainer for the STA (Swimming Teacher’s Association) for the last 12 years and an RLSS (Royal Life Saving Society) National Trainer for 14 years.

There isn’t much that Ann doesn’t know about swimming or running a swimming pool!

Claire McDowell

Claire is our longest serving swimming teacher and has been teaching people to swim for nearly 30 years! The chances are she could have taught your parents to swim!

Claire is highly qualified in all aspects of swim teaching and is a great teacher. When she isn’t teaching poolside you will find her getting involved with events such as Summerfest.

Claire could teach her swimming lessons with her eyes shut!

Nigel Fouracre

Nigel has been teaching swimming for 2 years. In those 2 years he has excelled as a teacher.

As well as his love of swimming Nigel holds a black belt in Taekwondo and even has his own Taekwondo School!

Just like the other team members, when Nigel isn’t teaching poolside you will find him getting involved with events at the School.

Nigel was non-verbal until he was 10 years old, therefore he speaks fluently in sign language.
